GST appellate tribunal likely to come up in all states New Delhi, Mar 16 (KNN) A four-member appellate tribunal is likely to be established in each state to streamline and hasten the Goods and Services Tax (GST) conflict settlement procedure, reported PTI citing an official.

As per reports, all the state appellate tribunal will have two technical members and two judicial members.

Each state appellate tribunal will have two division benches and thus will be able to deal with more appeals, the official noted.

The 49th meeting of GST council held in New Delhi on February 20 had accepted the Group of Ministers’ (GoM) recommendations on long pending constitution of GST appellate tribunal in the country with some modifications.

“The national appellate tribunal, which would be set up in Delhi will look into appeal cases on disputes between the department and assesse over the ‘place of supply’ under the GST regime. It, however, will not take up any appeal with regard to divergent rulings by state appellate tribunals,” the official added.

The government is also in talks with the states regarding setting up a selection committee for appointing judicial members in state benches. The judicial members will be selected fr0m a panel of serving or retired High Court and District Court judges.

The whole process would take about 7-8 months for setting up benches in each state as well as a national appellate tribunal, the official informed. (KNN Bureau)
