Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai inaugurated the two-day 15th Global Communication Conclave organised by the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI), a Pan-India Professional Council and Young Communicator Council of India (YCC) at a hotel at Ribandar on Friday.

‘Communication in the New Decade Mapping the Mega Trends’ is the theme for the conclave.

Speaking on the occasion Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai quoting Aristotle “Man is by nature a social animal??? said, if that be so then every man and woman who believes in being social has to make public relations and communications a part and parcel of his or her life. These concepts have existed in one form or the other since ancient times.

He said, “India has a rich tradition of public relations from ancient times. The fact that PRCI has an award named after Chanakya is an acknowledgement of our expertise in the field. There are numerous historical examples and records of effective communication strategies used over the centuries in one form or the other, Pillai said.

He further said, “Public Relations & Communications as a subject has become more formalised, institutionalised and professionalised over the last hundred years. Public relations is all about maintaining good image and good will in society. It applies to individuals, institutions and to the business, as well as, the government sector. A good PR should be able to help both sides to understand each other and foster mutual harmony and respect for each other. A bad PR on the other handcreates crisis or conflict, dissatisfaction and discontentment. ???

Pillai further said that there are lakhs of youths in our country who lack communication skill that hinders their ability to achieve personality development.

“Experts are being engaged to give practical training in the areas of personal development skills, leadership training, customer services and effective participation in debate, discussions and other related subjects,??? he added.

The Governor suggested PRCI to play a significant role in protecting and advancing the free flow of accurate and truthful information that is essential to democratic societies.

He also urged to ensure that stringent ethical standards and best practices are infused in work that engages new technologies and techniques and asked to focus on research because any field to gain credibility needs to constantly augment its body of knowledge.

The Governor presented Hall of Fame Awards, YCC Kautilya awards and various memorial awards which included lifetime achievement, communication of the decade, public relation professionals, good administration and management business communications, journalism and best young communicator.
